Binding Child Support Agreement Lump Sum
The parties may agree that the lump sum will be used to pay all or part of the maintenance assessment. A limited support agreement for children offers more flexibility to the parties, with each party being able to terminate the agreement after a period of three years without notice to the other party. Where a maintenance agreement provides that family allowances are paid in a manner different from that of regular amounts, it may be established that the annual maintenance rate to be paid for the children as part of the administrative assessment is reduced by an amount or percentage (up to 100%) corresponding to the annual value of the child support to be paid in accordance with the agreement (CSA Act Section 84(1)(d) and Section 84(6)). A periodic amount may be adjusted to take account of the cost of living, either by the inflation factor for child maintenance (2.4.2), or by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) (3.4.3), or by another adjustment factor defined in the Maintenance Agreement. . . .
